I remember being sent for batteries of tests and being referred to a psychologist when nobody was acknowledging what Long Covid was. I thought, do you not understand what Iโ€™m telling you? I need a week in bed just to summon the energy to visit my GP.

Oh I so get you. My constant cry now is โ€œExcuse me, Iโ€™m not in control, I will run you over!โ€ Mind you Iโ€™m in a not brilliant 2nd hand cheapy chair whilst I wait for my Mountain Trike to sell. Have thought about the Whill. Do they stop quickly? Thatโ€™s my main issue with this one. Iโ€™ve hit walls, doors, the car whilst waiting for it to stop, I never judge it right. And it not good on cambers either.

I have just started to get brave enough to warn people ๐Ÿ˜‚ the Whill stops too quickly and gently rocks which can be disconcerting! I am used to it now but it has many battle scars from door frames. Glad I am not the only one! Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Most people donโ€™t understand that things they give no thought to - going to the parking pay station, for example - becomes a huge addition of effort to what was already going to be a big effort. I couldnโ€™t have fully understood this myself until it happened to me. Thanks for writing about this.

Yes! Itโ€™s the little things I used to take for granted which now take so long to prepare for and execute. Even shop counters that are too high for wheelchair users I found out today!

Paul, I totally relate to every part of this story, from the anxious anticipation, to the awkwarding hauling a heavy multi part wheelchair out of your ADA parking spot and sticking out like an ambulatory sore thumb, to bumping into walls and making bad jokes. From one long hauler to another, thanks for sharing your story and making me feel less alone!!

Thank you, the post has really helped me as well. It also helps me to remember why I am so wiped out now!

I so agree with everything you said, nobody without chronic illness realises how difficult these appointments are. I take ages to come to in the morning and try to arrange appointments for later in the day. I feel very anxious before the time and pem afterwards can last for days. The medical profession just donโ€™t understand the effort required .

They really donโ€™t. I will likely be out of action at least tomorrow, all for some routine blood tests. Thanks for reading and commenting, I really do appreciate it.

Every. Single. Appointment.

I couldn't have explained it any better myself. Thank you for putting it all into words.
